This morning was held at the headquarters of the historic Società Canottieri Firenze, in a charming location at the foot of Ponte Vecchio, the press conference to present the partnership between the TRISOME GAMES 2016 and GIVOVA .
The city of Florence will host, in fact, from 15 to 22 July 2016 the first edition of the “Trisome Games”, the first Olympics reserved for athletes with Down syndrome.
The event, organized by the Local Organizing Committee, chaired by Alessio Focardi, this year has been assigned to Italy and specifically in Florence by the Su-Ds – Sports Union for athletes with Down Syndrome – the international body that oversees the sport for athletes suffering from Trisomy 21.
The prestigious event can boast an equally prestigious sponsor, GIVOVA, which once again demonstrates, in intent and with the facts, to be close to sport and social.
The athletes will be engaged in 9 sports disciplines: athletics, swimming, synchronized swimming, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, futsal, judo, tennis, table tennis.
The Olympics of Florence will be dedicated only to athletes with Down syndrome: at the moment there are already registered 34 nations from the 5 continents with the presence of almost 900 athletes and technicians.
The Trisome Village will also be set up in the Campo di Marte area. The opening ceremony is scheduled in Piazza della Signoria and in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio will be held the world congress of the Paralympic associations.
Exceptional test will be the athlete Nicole Orlando, a disabled champion who won 5 medals at the Iaads World Championships in South Africa.
